Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis is a parasitic disease transmitted through sexual intercourse.  It is highly contagious, and usually infects the male urethra, or cervix and uterus.

Spread of infection

  • Sexual contact
  • Occasionally, non-sexual contact through contact contaminated public facilities or utensils.

Incubation period

4 – 28 days

Symptoms

Most of the infected people only show unnoticeable symptoms. Sometimes the following occurs:

  • Men: A weak urine stream, burning and painful urination, white and cloudy discharge from the penis
  • Women: Genital burning and itching, with an unpleasant fishy smell, pain during urination, vaginal discharge of white and cloudy, yellow or green in color

What are the complications without treatment?

  • Men: Causing prostatitis or infertility
  • Women: Causing cervical and pelvic chronic inflammation or infertility
